At small deterioration of cams of a camshaft them smooth out a grinding skin, at first coarse-grained, then fine-grained. To define a backlash it is necessary to measure diameter of a neck of a camshaft, to establish the bearing corresponding to it, to fix its case and to measure internal diameter of the bearing, then to subtract the second value from the first. The difference of values also is backlash size. Measure a backlash and the calibrated plastic wire. The admissible backlash can be no more than 0,2 mm.
